A Border Police officer was killed, and 10 others were injured in a terror attack at Beersheba’s central bus station in Israel on Sunday, according to Israeli police. The attacker was shot dead by the police.
Sargent Shira Suslik, a 19-year-old Border Police officer from Beersheba, was identified as the victim in a deadly shooting at a McDonald’s inside the city’s central bus station, The Times of Israel reported. She was killed when a gunman stormed the restaurant and opened fire on those inside.
According to the local media reports, the shooter, identified as Ahmad al-Uqbi, 29, an Israeli citizen from the unrecognised Bedouin village of Umbi near Hura, was reportedly killed at the scene by IDF soldiers. Al-Uqbi, who had a prior criminal record, opened fire before being killed.
Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance, and blood service, informed The Jerusalem Post that its paramedics were treating nine individuals with varying degrees of injuries at the scene.
Additionally, MDA stated that one person is in moderate-to-serious condition, four in moderate condition, and three with minor injuries were being transported to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
This is the second mass shooting incident in Israel in a week.
